When the wall is the protagonist
Decorated tile is where the wall stops being a backdrop and becomes the star of the room. A kitchen backsplash, an alcove, a shower wall, the front of a vanity unit, or an entryway wall all change character with a decorative piece, and they do so with the resistance, ease of cleaning, and color stability of porcelain, which neither wallpaper nor paint can offer in a damp area.
The rule is the same as for flooring: one decorated surface per space.
