Terrazzo, without construction work or on-site polishing
Terrazzo has made a strong comeback in interior design, and porcelain tile is the sensible way to bring it in. Traditional terrazzo is made on site: it requires on-site polishing, long curing times, sealing, and constant maintenance to keep it from staining. Porcelain terrazzo reproduces the aggregate and background with the same visual effect, but it arrives ready to install, with virtually no absorption and the chemical resistance that allows it to be cleaned without special care.
It is a design with character that works through contrast and restraint. In small bathrooms, entry areas, a kitchenette, or on a single wall surface, it adds personality without the need for any other decoration; on larger surfaces, it is best paired with solid colors or a cement-look tile that lets the overall composition breathe. The size of the aggregate completely changes the result: fine grains behave almost like a neutral with texture and can cover large areas, while coarse grains make a statement and call for a more controlled use.
It pairs especially well with our solid-color collections and with the cement-look tiles in the same family, with the same background tone, so that the transition from one material to the other within the same room does not create a visual break. It is available in several formats so that the layout does not force the pattern to be cut at the most visible points, and in shades ranging from off-white with gray aggregate to dark backgrounds with warm grains.
