What to look for when choosing wall tiles

Wall tiles are chosen on different criteria from floor tiles, and it is worth being clear about that before opening any catalogue. A wall takes no traffic and no abrasion, so wear resistance stops being the limiting factor and the whole range of finishes opens up: you can use a high-gloss polish that would be impractical on a floor, or a pronounced relief that on paving would gather dirt. What still matters is absorption, because most of the walls being tiled are in bathrooms and kitchens, and there our white-body rectified porcelain delivers near-zero absorption, resistance to cleaning chemicals and a perfectly flat surface for working with minimal grout lines.

Format matters more here than on any other surface, because on a wall the tiles are seen at eye level. Elongated tiles laid vertically stretch the ceiling height and are the usual answer in narrow bathrooms; horizontally they widen and work well behind a worktop, as a bar front or as a headboard panel. Large format takes the logic to its conclusion: fewer joints, fewer places for limescale and soap to gather, and the reading of a continuous slab that no small layout achieves. With grout in the same tone as the tile, the panel reads as a single surface from floor to ceiling.

On design, the approach that works best is choosing a family before choosing a tile. Our collections include floor and wall in the same tone and design, so you can wrap a whole room and change only the finish in the shower area, where grip is advisable. From there, the appearance sets the register: wood-look to bring warmth to a wet area where real timber would not go, marble-look to make the most of a polished finish on a shower panel, stone and concrete looks as a neutral background, and decorated tiles or terrazzo when you want a single wall to resolve the character of the room. All manufactured in Mexico, with immediate availability and the option of replacing tiles years later without changing reference.
