Choosing porcelain tile for the living room

The living room is the space where the whole apartment can be seen at once. There is no fixed furniture interrupting it or countertops cutting across it, so any decision about the format, tone, or direction of the tiles is visible from every point. That is why porcelain tile for a living room is chosen differently than in the rest of the house: first comes the reading of the whole, then the technical detail. There is foot traffic, but it is less demanding than in a hallway or kitchen, which shifts the choice toward aesthetics.

Large format is the most effective tool. Reducing the number of grout lines makes the surface read as a continuous plane and makes the living room seem larger than it is, an effect that becomes stronger when the grout matches the tile tone and when the layout direction follows the flow of movement. Light tones open up and refresh the space, and are almost always the right choice for modest-sized areas; dark tones add depth and character, but they require more square footage and good natural light. Matte and satin finishes are the most suitable here, because they avoid distracting reflections in front of windows and do not show every footprint.

The other decision, and the one that transforms the project the most, is continuity toward the dining room and the terrace. Using the same collection in all three areas, changing only to a grip finish outdoors, eliminates visual breaks at the thresholds and makes the three spaces read as one. Our multi-format collections are designed exactly for that: the same design and the same tone, different sizes and finishes, with the possibility of resolving the entire day area with a single product family and a single order.
